Why we called it alora.
2 min read
People ask about the name more than almost anything else — it doesn't sound like a fabric or a founder's last name, so it reads like it means something. It does. Alora means "the lord is my light" — a phrase drawn from Psalm 27:1. It's not a marketing line we bolted on after the fact; it's the reason the brand exists in the shape it does.
Light, in the small moments
A hoodie is not a grand object. It's what you reach for at 6am before the coffee's ready, or at 11pm when the day is finally over and you just want to feel held. That's the register Alora is built for — not a statement piece, a quiet one. The name is a reminder built into the smallest, most repeated moment of someone's day: putting the hood up.
Every hoodie is a small reminder that God's light goes with you wherever you go — into the morning, into the dark, into every quiet moment between.
Why the hood is silk-lined
This is where the name stops being just a word on the label and starts showing up in the actual construction. The hood is the one part of the garment closest to your face, so it's the one part we didn't leave as plain fleece — it's double-layered with a silk lining, sewn in, not an accessory. If the name is about carrying something with you into the dark and the quiet, the hood is the literal place that happens. That's also why the inner tag — silk, sewn, not printed — is the one detail we kept hidden instead of putting it on display.
Comfort is home
That's the tagline, and it's meant plainly. Not "comfort is a vacation" or "comfort is treating yourself" — comfort is home, the place the light is already on when you walk in. A $65 hoodie won't fix a hard day. But it can be one honest, well-made thing that's there for the ordinary parts of it — which is a smaller promise than most brands make, and the one we'd rather actually keep.
